Pittwater is a large inlet separated from the ocean by a narrow peninsula, the northern most tip at Palm Beach. It is approximately 50 minutes by car to Sydney Harbour bridge.

Fairy penguins travel from one of the small islands to Careel Bay to feed and they can be heard and seen from Pelican Rest on most days. If the penguins are fishing, the pelicans are generally present too and they are often seen resting on the posts of the jetties.

Palm BeachThere is an abundance of wildlife in the area and many brightly coloured lorikeets and parrots visit Pelican Rest for breakfast, along with kookaburras and other native birds.

The village of Avalon is a five minute drive by car or a pleasant 20 minute walk where you will find many street cafes, boutique shops and a cinema. There is a local bus service from the village which stops almost at the door and from Avalon there is easy access to Palm Beach, Manly and Sydney.
